Stephen Mark Freiburger (born July 16, 1983 in Roanoke, Virginia) is an American filmmaker. Freiburger grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina, attending Providence High School and the North Carolina School of the Arts. At 22, Freiburger produced and directed his first feature, Dog Days of Summer. Freiburger is a member of the Producers Guild of America and resides in Los Angeles, California.[1]
Film Work
- Currently directing a film titled, Jimmy, starring Kelly Carlson, Bob Gunton, Patrick Fabian, Sharon Lawrence, Ted Levine and Ian Colletti.[2]
- Recently co-wrote a film with Gary Wheeler for Dave Matthews' production company, ATO Pictures, scheduled for production at the end of 2011.
- Producer and Co-Writer of the courtroom thriller, The Trial, starring Matthew Modine, Academy Award nominee Robert Forster and Bob Gunton. The DVD was released on November 9, 2010 by 20th Century Fox. It became one of the top 100 most rented films of 2010.[3]
- Produced the feature film Unrequited starring Twilight's Michael Welch and David Keith, to be released by Lionsgate.
- Completed his feature directorial debut with the independent feature Dog Days of Summer starring Will Patton, Richard Herd, Devon Gearhart and Colin Ford. The film began a limited theatrical release on April 18, 2008. DVD release by Anchor Bay Entertainment on April 21, 2009. Film critic Greg Wright raved of the film, "Freiburger has cribbed from his own short film of the same name, infused it with the period spookiness of Something Wicked This Way Comes, and upped the ante with macabre touches hinting of Tennessee Williams… and the lighter moments of Rob Reiner’s Stand By Me.'[4]
- Directed the student short, Booth in 2005, written by screenwriters Travis Beacham and Christopher J. Waild. Premiered at the DGA Theater in Los Angeles, California.[5]
- Directed a Cold Cannons/Country Boyz hip-hop video single in 2004 for EMI which ran on the BET network for 7 months.
Theatre Work
- Freiburger directed 110 Stories at Los Angeles' prestigious Geffen Playhouse in 2010, which starred Academy Award nominee John Hawkes, Katharine McPhee, Ed Asner, Diane Venora, Gail O'Grady, Malcolm-Jamal Warner, Michael Welch, Sharon Lawrence, D. B. Sweeney, Nicholas Turturro, Joseph C. Phillips, Michael Beach, Stelio Savante and Sophie Sinise.[6]
